Hi, I'm Nesrin!

I love to research and explore cool places with my family, bonding and creating lasting memories in the outdoors! Baraa and I got married in 2009 and have three beautiful children together: Layal (11), Raya (8), and Hasan (3). Our kids have been homeschooled from the very beginning, and we can't imagine it any other way. We love the flexibility, personalized instruction, and many more benefits it brings to our home, not to mention spending so much more time outside and learning through experience and travel!

We have tackled an insane amount of hikes, camping trips, and road trips together! We sold and donated all of our stuff at the start of the pandemic to live out of our truck for almost two years as we traveled the states and lived our dream life!

I am so grateful to have this man by my side who has supported my passion and love for the outdoors and my adventurous spirit! He has always met me halfway, if not more! I love that he's always down for an adventure and loves instilling that love and curiosity in our children.

We enjoy hiking, camping, paddleboarding, and learning all about local wildlife near our home in Northern California. Exploring nature with your children creates amazing opportunities to learn about the environment and to teach the importance of conservation and ways to protect our natural world. I hope that by sharing about my adventures with my family, we will inspire moms and families around the world to get outside more and explore amazing places in their backyard. True adventuring is so much better with kids; they inspire me to do more and see more, and I love seeing the world through their eyes!

Growing up

I was born in Damascus, Syria in 1984, and my family immigrated to the US in 1988. My father worked hard to provide for us but never let us feel the struggles he went through to put a meal on the table. My mother struggled a lot since she moved here not knowing anyone and having to raise her kids in a strange country without knowing the language. Under their love and care, my brother, my sisters, and I grew up to be a close-knit family, and I’ll forever be grateful for that.

We used to spend our weeks very busy going to school, working, and just maintaining a routine. But as soon as the weekend would hit, my father would be ready to play basketball, swim, or simply have park days with friends and family. Yet, he always dreamed of traveling and seeing the world, and exploring all the beauty in it. But it was always just out of reach with our financial struggles. I always dreamt of the day I could take my parents traveling and ease their financial pains, but unfortunately, our life took a different turn.

Now that I’m an adult with my own kids, I look back at those memories and strive to instill in my children the same values and habits my parents instilled in me. I want to create memories with my kids so they can look back when they’re older and reminisce about chasing wildflowers in Death Valley or spotting deer and elk in the Redwoods. For me, going outside and spending quality time with family will bring us closer and give us our happiest moments because we can just run wild and free. We can marvel at the beauty of this world that God has created, which people tend to forget when they’re indoors.
